good c++ dev environment?
anyone know any, or have any recommendations? i'm a college student, and so far have only used codewarrior. Not too fond of it, but then again i haven't used any others except jbuilder (for java)

me too. Get it while you can while your a college student, that software is not cheap when you have to buy as a non college student.

if you arnt, the standard version is going to run you about 100 dollars. Most colleges will be able to give you a licensed copy for free, and free is always the way to go.

Nothing is for free in this world. I'm sure you pay for it indirectly with tuition or related fees. But if your college offers it, take it since you've already paid for it.

I picked up Visual C++ from my school's bookstore for $50. It's the standard version which I've seen for $100 in the usual places. Student software prices rock!

WinNT,Win2k,Win98,WinME all for $6 a CD...
Office 2000 for $24....

lol. oh, but i did manage to get Visual c++ 5.0 [learning edition] from my brother for free. my parents bought it for him a couple of years ago, and he just doesn't really use it. hehe.

I am using free software for practicing on when I'm at home called Bloodshed Dev-C++. It is an integrated development environment and is similar to the borland package. You can download it at http://www.bloodshed.net/download.html
It's released under the GNU.
I'm using it for just C at the moment and I'm not having problems with it.
Just a suggestion if that's the type of thing you're looking for...
