Lian-Li Aluminum Cases

Are these ultra-light, ultra-cool-looking cases worth the almost $200 price tag? Or, for a normal system, will a standard case be fine?

Don't know if it's worth it or not but they sure do look cool. I'm really stuck on these Enermax products though even the power supplie has dual fans. Check out the CS-989AL-05 at http://www.enermax.com.tw/products/pc-main.htm . Room for 7 case fans and an additional 2 in the power supply.

Well you can pick it up in white, black, oranage, teal I believe, silver, etc. So quite a few choices.

Anyone here mod there Lian Li case?

I'm thinking about it, but I don't want to mess up my $280 case..kinda scary hehe.

I like the look of these cases.

Here's a review of the PC-70, the one I want, but probably won't be able to afford.

I figure, hey, why not spend 200-300$ on a great case? It's the only part I'll still use three, four, five years from now.

BTW, the PC-70 has no slide-out mobo tray, being a mondo-huge server case.

I always thought the aluminum cases were made for modding, seeing how you can cut right through that aluminum.

As for modding the Lian Lu, If you have the time, patience and right tool go for it. I modded my torndado 1000 which has thick steel. Your lian lu would be much easier to cut. If you do this make sure you get the best parts and you MUST have a dremel probably one with a cord so you can get the 30k rpm's.

I have seen my next case, a 60, for $159

then you add a 350-450w ps, and you're set...

Yeah after you add the psu this gets quite expensive. Example: Lain Li PC60-USB $195 shipped, Enermax 431w PSU $89 shipped. That comes out to about $280 like I said. Of course prices maybe went down a bit now, seeing that I bought this about 2 months ago or more.

i think the lian-li cases are over hyped. Yes they are very good looking and would make great LAN rigs (7kg is pretty damn light), but i dont think they are worth the high price tag.

Also, if you have seen this case touted as a "giant heatsink for your whole system", that's not really true, because nobody of any intelligence will design a heatsink with several inches of air in between

I did a small test. I have the Lian Li and a Blizzard 360, which is just like the Tornado series of cases, except better.

Now with the case fans all off I got the following:

Lian Li: 89F
Blizzard 360: 102F

Amient temp is at 80-82F. This is quite a difference. And when I put the fans on high I got this:

Lian Li: 85F
Blizzard 360: 90F

So there you have it, in my eyes it's worth it dude, and it rocks at LAN parties!!

yep, i put a big plexiglass window on mine, and i love it. it comes with so many thumbscrews its scary. everything is extremely well made, and it is insanely light.

my whole computer now weighs less than my old case.

oh, i just found out that thinkgeek.com sells the 60 already modded. looks like a great job
