300W Insufficient?
I heard from different sources that a 300W PowerSupply is insufficient for Tbirds @ 1GHz and higher.
Is this true? If this is so then:
How much power do I need to run a +1.33GHz Tbird?
Howcome most cases are still selling 300W?
Someone gimme some info on this please...Thanks

All Tbirds above 1ghz take over 55w+. The cpu itself does not matter as much as how many ide connections you have, pci slots filled, fans, etc.
300w is enough, unless you have like 8 fans+ amd 4 ide devices+, etc.
1ghz Tbirds can run on 250w, but to be on the safe side AMD recommends 300w.

Just to prove AMD Soldier's point, I was running a Tbird 1GHz @ 1.2GHz with a Sparkle 250W PSU. Mind you, Sparkle is a very good brand for PSUs, perhaps some other el cheapo brands won't perform near their stated output.
Unless you are running Dual Palominos (which require a 460W), a 300W PSU should last you a while. Remember to get a good brand like Enermax or Sparkle.

Good point.. and ill just add to it. Im running my 300w sparkle PSU, and i have 2 hard drives, 2 cd rom devices, a sound card, a GF2PRO agp card (i heard they use alot of power.. i heard), a NIC, 2 extra USB ports, the DELTA on my heatsink, including 2 other DELTA fans, one on the northbridge and an 80mm DELTA side panel intake fan, and aboout 6 additional fans, 4 80mm fans and 2 bigger fans, i dont know the exact sized, but they are bigger. After all that, i havent had ANY problems with my 300w sparkle. .

If you think about it, using all the connectors that come out of the power supply means that it's at it's max load. If you don't use them all, then you should be "ok" (just a thought that came to my mind)
sort of like an outlet in a house, you should be fine, but just don't start getting a bunch of split off and running alot of stuff off of one connector (too many would blow the fuse in a house(
(man you would have to have ALOT of stuff to run out of connectors, at least I would think...)

but i would think a 80mm fan would use less power than a 7200 rpm hd, right? in my case they both use the same type of connector

Yep your right, in that case, you could extend off of it, and split out the power. I have it like that with a couple of my case fans running off of each other. You just wouldn't want to go overboard with certain things that do consume decent amounts of power

I don't know about the connecter thing. This case i have now has a 235w psu and a Fortran-Source power supply, it also has loads of connecters. However the Enlight case i bought (but sent back as it was faulty!) had a 250w psu but fewer connecters, I was actually strugling to get all my stuff connected because there were so few they had to stretch all over the place.

Would it be worth to upgrade from 300W to 350W? BTW: I dunno what brand will come w/ my case but its just says "AMD certified"
Also, speaking of connectors and stuff...For fans, i have a choice between PS connection or MOBO connection...Which is better?

As long as it's a 300W PSU and is AMD approved you shouldn't have any problems.
As for fan connections, if you wish to monitor the fan's rpm and such, then you would have to get a mobo connection. If you don't care just get a PSU connection.

Now is it just me or am I one lucky sap who can run all of this on a lousy cheap 230W? You don't need a 300 unless what you have already doesnt work, and if you dont have something already you should buy the best psu you can afford.
