An inspiration from Sharper Image
I went to Sharper Image last Sunday and saw an big air purifier pumping out fresh air.
It is no wonder at all except one thing. It has NO FAN. Yes, no fan, absolutely dead quiet, and flowing air.
What gave me is this:
Can we make a CPU/chipset/video card cooler from this wonderful technology, instead of living with the noise that those GlobalWin bring to us ??

If you want to completely destroy every electrical component in your system, sure. It moves air by ionization, which would create a lot of charged particles floating around your computer which would thusly proceed to fry everything inside.

actually you could get away with it if you were to place a "GETTER" or two in the computer case. This would eliminate the problems of ion poisoning. However I doubt that you could produce enough air flow to cool an AMD with an Ion tower.

Am I the only one who thinks back to Star Wars when Ion towers were Sci-fi that shot at X-Wings? Now we cool roons with them...maybe I'm just getting old

I got one of those electric 12 volt coolers too. The lid gets cold on one side and hot on the other. I never used it, might have to take a look and see what’s in there.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about, back in the late 80's people used to be able to double CPU speeds using those, it's really a matter of a heatsink on the "hot" side being efficieant enough to dissipate the heat and avoiding condensation on the "cold" side. It can work, but the high likelyhood of condensation makes it risky business.
