My CPU fan is making a funny noise?
I have an AMD t-bird 900MHz and the fan is making this funny noise. It has always been very quiet untill now. If i give the case a slap to teh side it will stop for a couple seconds adn then start makign that noise again. I don't think it is going to die sometime soon but it is getting anoying. I don't think i can get another fan for it because it is on a stock H/S and it has different screws. like they are smaller then normal fan screws are (i think) Any suggestions would help.

maybe your fan is touching a wire...last time this happened to me...just move all the wires that might come in contact w/ the hsf, that should be it. If its not, your fan is dying bud

could just be vibrational, is it down tight? Sometimes the screws work loose after a while.

Yah it is down tight i checked that already, I think it might be dying. What shoudl I do to replace it. Should i just go and buy a new H/S liek the SK6 w/ a 60 to 80 mm converter so the thing won't be soo loud.

That would be ideal unless you have those screw holes on you mobo and can use the Alpha Pal8045. It won't be much more expensive (prolly less) after you factor in the price of 60-80mm adapters.

If you want to buy a little time you can oil the fan and get a couple months out of her. Pop the sticker off the fan. If you do it right you can save the sticker, if not - oh well but you'll need to replace it so it doesn't fling out. Pop the sticker off and drop in a few drops of 3-n-1 or something. Not too much or it'll fling out. Replace the sticker if you can, or cover the hole with tape and there you go! Make sure you clean the hub of any oil with alcohol or the tape/sticker won't stick.
Done that before with crummy sleeve bearing fans that squeal to buy some time. Usually it lasts several months.

My mobo does have the holes for the H/S but that H/S weighs a lot more then what AMD says is the limit. Anyways I really didn't want to buy a new H/S and fan but i guess i have to now huh. Where can i get the pal8045 cheap. I found one for $51 and that comes with a 80cfm delta 80mm fan. My question is will that be any better then what i am getting now. Like how loud is one of those. I have a 120mm fan and it is pretty loud but i can turn it off this fan will have to stay on so i want it not to bee too loud. It is an 80mm so it should have a deeper sound to it right? And the temp of my cpu doesn't matter. The pal8045 was rated #2 for best cooling but i don't really need more cooling heck i am getting 42 C with stock H/S and fan OCed. I am mainly concerned with the price.

i agree...better replace the fan then rather replace the CPU and the fan when it dies out...
or u could be just extra careful and watch the temps!

I understand that but i kind of want to try to make it last a couple weeks longer so i can get AS3 and a new H/S fan all in one shipment. What do i need to look for. Like will i know when the fan dies liek wil it just stop? And i do keep an eye on the temps. It never goes over 45 right now. What is the limit that i need to stop?
