I was thinking the other day on how cooling actually works, and how you could increase cooling effeciency without adding a million loud fans.
And I thought, what if you could mount everything vertically, then have air being sucked up and through the case? Because the entire length of the cards is exposed to the air flow, and because there's no place for air to stagnate... should be a lot cooler right?
That doesn't really work because of the way expansion cards fit into the motherboard though, at right angles. So I went back to the drawing board.
What if you fitted a large cowling flush to the back of the case, then put 2 or 3 120mm fans back there? Have them suck air in through the front and out the back. Leave your slot covers off, and alternate the cards so you have an empty slow open next to each one. The processor would have to have it's own hole in the rear to allow air to flow over it, but most cases should already have this.
Thoughts?
