Post Radeon 32mbDDR running at 1xAGP?!

    Hi, guys I'm new here.
I must say this is the best PC forum on the net.

Anyway, I brought a Radeon 32mb DDR today.
At first I can't even get it to work. Black loading screen, and monitor goes dead after window loads.

Finally I updated my VIA 4 in 1 drivers, and the new 3056 drivers, its working ok so far.

But still if something messes up my display, and after booting, my monitor goes dead before window loads. Reinstalling VIA 4in1s with standard AGP mode fixes the problem Turbo mode causes the monitor to go dead before window loads.

But I'm stumped Why my AGP operations is at 1x?? And my 3dmark2000 is at 3247
My old 4x AGP ViperII can do 3231!!
Thanks very much for any help.

I do not know if ATI has had to yet, but do you have the most recient revision of the BIOS for the video card? <shrug>

I have not seen anything yet regarding compatibility, but I will start looking on a few other sites I frequent, and see if there is anything there.
    I'll be in touch...

Have you submitted a problem report to ATI yet? http://support.atitech.ca/problem/win9x.html

Mightr be something that ATI needs to work out with Abit.

Also, since you just purchased it, try taking it back and exchanging it for another. Might simply be defective and not properly responding to the driver requests.

Had a similar problem with the Asus A7V and fast writes. Not sure, but if your motherboard has a 'fast write option' enabled, disable it. It will likely fix your problem.

As to why? I've notified NVIDIA and they were looking into it (saw the same thing with the asud mobo and any NVIDIA card under win2k).

    Hi.
Ive got a P3 setup running on an ABIT board as well so this may or may not help you, i was just thinking that ABIT boards might share the some of the same bios options regardless of them being AMD or Intel type boards. I had it where my Geforce 2 was running at 1x for ages and i realised that there was an option in the bios that could change the tranfer rate. It is called "AGP Tranfer Mode" or something similar. If youve got this then set it to fast and it should solve the problem. If not then good luck finding a solution.

Go to the Abit web site, and download driver 5.0.3043 now! Reload the 4-in-1 driver then load the new ATI driver.

Hi, many thanks for all the inputs.
I tried doing a few things this morning, and none of them worked. I'm still stuck at 1x AGP.

First: I tried disabling the 4x AGP at the bios and reinstalling the VIA 4 in 1s in turbo mode. The result? windows locks up during loading. I'm back at standard mode right now.

Second: I tried installing the new beta drivers from ATI. Guess what?! The installation locks up (not responding). I have tried several rebooting and such but it just don't want to work on my Comp!
Think I'm kidding? see for yourself. http://members.tripod.com/~bluewavez/notres.jpg

Hi, JDS. I went to Abits website but I can't find such a driver. Where is it at? Thanks!

I think I will go trade the card for another later, basically thats the only thing i can do right now.
Is there anything else I can try? Thanks guys!

Hi, guys. Thanks for all the cool inputs on this subject.

I did a few more installations and I did get the Radeon to run at 2x AGP. BUT I had to uninstall the VIA 4 in 1s AGP drivers.
And 3d mark sucks with the old AGP drivers
    D3D T&L at 2147.

Once I installed the new 425a 4 in 1s windows hangs during loading.

So I'm back at standard AGP 1x now.

Maybe I will try some older versions of 4 in 1s and see how it goes.

Anyone else out here having the same experience like me?

    Laters and...

Try another AGP video card, and put that radeon in another computer, try to isolate the bad part.

    Hi christop99,
I put my viperII in the comp and it worked like it used to. But I have yet to try put the radeon on another comp.
But it does indeed work on 2x AGP, had to uninstall the latest VIA AGP drivers that is.

Hey, JDS. No problem dude I appreciate your input. But you had me looking at ABITs Site for over 15 mins, I could have been surfing porn!! j/k

Also, My comp does have fast write disabled.

Laters, and thanks goes out to everyone for all the inputs.
