Post Random lockups during games, please help.

    Hello.

I have been having this problem ever since I reformatted and installed win2k.

Whenever I play games, my system gets frozen randomly without much pattern. While playing CS, sometimes I can play for hours but most of times it will freeze some 5~ 30 min into the game(it's totally random) and the last few seconds of sounds will loop. About 20% of times, I can alt-tab out and come back in but most of times the whole system becomes unresponsive.

I have all the latest windows updates and have installed VIA 4 in 1 patch as well. I am using Detonator 3 12.4 driver from Hercules.com website.

Because of the sound loop when CS crashes I suspect it might be sound card problem instead of graphic card problem.

I have tried to update the drivers for Soundblaster pc128 card, and have dled the installation files from their website. However, upon opening it it says the card isn't detected. When I check it on the Devices Manager, however, it says it is indeed sb pc128.

The driver for the sound card apparently is by MS and was included in win2k. I do not know if this is problem.

Besides this problem, the system runs smoothly...

Please help me, this problem has frustrated me for past month and I would greatly appreciate any help/suggestions.

    Thank you.

Try uninstalling the sound card drivers and taking out the card itself. Then run it and see if it runs fine. Also, if you have onboard sound, you could give that a try.

Try instaling the AMD AGP port driver instead of all 4 VIA drivers(only install 3 of them)
Also make sure you dont have any IRQ conflicts

How do I find out if there is any IRQ problem?

And do I have uninstall 4 in 1 drivers(if yes, how?) before I install 3 of them?

I really appreciate you guys' help.
