Post Modem keeps phone line open

I just got a Diamond Supra Express 56e SUP2730, from someone who got a new computer.

Anyway, when I have it plugged in it keeps the phone line open as if there were a phone off the hook. I have installed the drivers...as per the Diamond website, no luck.

Anyone had this problem? know how to fix?

are you sure you have the phone lines plugged in correctly? they could be reversed. i remember back in the day on my p90, 14.4, i hooked up the phone lines backwards, could get on the net still, but had no phone

yeah I got em in correctly, the problem isn't simply that I can't use the phone next to the computer...it is that I not have a "phone off the hook" so the whole line is down.

this makes it hard to get a phone call, right?

something to do with the driver or maybe sharing an irq/mem address...
see if you can allocate an irq for the modem in the bios..
maybe try uninstalling/reinstalling if all else fails..

I used to have Diamond Supra Express modem that started doing the same thing. I hadn't changed anything in the computer so I figured the modem had just gone bad. I just got rid of it and bought an inexpensive modem.
