Angry Q3A won't recognize wheel on MS Intellimouse Optical USB mouse

Why won't this D#*@ thing work?!?! When I go SETUP/CONTROLS/SHOOT when I first start Q3 I can go to the "next weapon" and "previous weapon" options and set them to recognize the wheel. When I ESC back to the SETUP menu and then go back CONTROLS/SHOOT to check the settings, it no longer recognizes the wheel at all, and my next and previous weapons selectors are back to the default keyboard key settings. If I try to reset them to the wheel, it doesn't recognize the wheel at all. The wheel functions properly in all other programs including Q2. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS THING?!? AARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

    Welcome to Microshit! ;-)
Does this happen in other games or just Q3?
    Tried an updated driver?

It only happens on Q3. Q2 works great, and yes I have loaded the latest available driver from MicroSquish, and I'm running the 1.17 patch in Q3. A little more info on the subject, A friend said he had a similar problem and said if I start the game, then go in and set the wheel, then exit the game without changing anything else, then restart the game it should work. I tried that and it worked, but if I go back into setup for controls, I lose my wheel function and have to do this little dance again. I guess it's the software equivilent of the Heisenberg Principle; simply observing my settings affects their state. Go Figure.

I dunno if that helps, but I've got the Logitech mouseman optical and I couldn't get the wheel working properly until i set "numbers of lines to skip" in the whell config of the driver to "none".
If there's something similar in the MS driver you should try it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I noticed a suggestion like that in another thread and I looked at the wheel setting for my MS mouse. It isn't phrased exactly the same way, but if I understand it correctly, you basically turned the "sensitivity" of the wheel all the way down to it's "slowest" setting. (It only scrolls one line at a time) I currently have mine set to scroll 6 lines per wheel-click, I'll try setting it to 1 line per click and see if that works. Only problem is, that'll be a huge pain in the "real world" outside of Q3.

I think you got me right. The problem is that my driver is german, and I tried to translate the phrases.

The friend that gave me the suggestion above (about setting it then quitting and restarting to make the wheel work) recently bought a Boomslang 2K, he says he loves it, it's quite accurate. Are you using a Boomslang?
