    Post NFS: High Stakes

I am using Windows XP and only Windows XP... I was wondering if there is a way to install NFS: High Stakes... I understand that it might work once installed if I use compatibility mode, but I can't even get it installed. It runs a check and every time that I try to install, it says "This program Requires Windows 95/98". Any ideas? Know of anything I could try?

insert the explore the actual contents of the cd, right click the setup.exe file, choose compatbility tab, select windows 98 radio button, click apply, then run the setup executable, this will work as I've done it.

Ditto. I've also done it this way with XP Home and it works fine.

thats an interesting remark Ganja. Frankly I find my performance has increased using the nt based kernel operating sysytems. Im using a gf3 ti200, which obviously has drivers as optimized on win2k/xp as on win9x itself, therefore I have nothing holding me back in that respect, HOWEVER, the memory management with either win2k or XP makes enough difference in game performance(specifially the ones I play) to warrant keeping it as my gaming platform full time.

A little bit of tweaking is all that is reqired to get it on the same footing as windows 98. Heck, I can ever get better 3dmark scores with this setup then I can with win98, no matter how hard I try.

    Thanks guys, that totally worked...

As for Windows XP, I like it. I haven't really noticed a big differance in game performance, but it is stable as hell... I almost never crash XP, but I crashed win98/me a couple times a day.

Dude Win XP has adavantages but for now I think untill all the incompatibility issues are fixed Im sticking with win98.
Besides my *** is too lazy to learn a whole new OS.
I have installed XP more then once only to find myself formatting again 30 min later due to me pullin my hair out.

and who's fault is that - the operating system, or the 'user'?

It does work. I've been playing the game on XP Home for the last month with no problems.

BTW, for the NFS 4 fanatics, here's a site that has a lot of cars to download...the F&F series are done pretty well.

okay thanks for the clarification MoM. I could have sworn I had seen you post a similiar response in another thread confirming this.
