    Post haaalp! sircam has struck!

    hi guys!
this virus dude has killed my friend's pc... it's a thinkpad.
at first she couldn't boot, and so my friend booted her up with a win me bootdisk (she, btw, runs 98). he tried (this dude was trying to help her out) formatting, but when it says that could not read disk or something of that sort.
any ideas... it's a laptop hd, so i'm having problems attaching to to a desktop... is there anything i can do right away..
    thanks!

    Cool

    Attach the other drive..But first:
    Remove your harddrives!
Boot with a floopy you can toss away!
    And then format that DOG!

    Hope that helps.. =)

    dude,
thanks for the link, but the thing is:
the drive cannot be formatted, and i wonder if the data on it is still valid. what you've given me might have worked during the first few days of infestation, but right now, it seems that the virus done too much damage. this removal tool just edits the registry so sircam doesn't load and what not, but it can't be used in a non-windows system that's been killed...

there might be a low-level format option in the BIOS. if it works, it'd wipe out everything, I believe.

Or you can just hold a really REALLY strong magnet to it

i've thought of that... this bios version doesn't have that option..
    thanks though.
    any other suggestions anyone...

    Update:
i ran norton utilities (by booting off that cd) and i tried to check the DOS boot sector and what not, but the problem is that it freezes at 0% and then skips to the next item... I don't know what to do. The drive is there at times, read perhaps a gig less, but still there.... I can see the sectors and stuff..
any ideas ... should i try opening the laptop and attaching that hd as master to a computer with a better BIOS (one with a low level format option) or is there something I can do without doing that....
    thanks.
