Thumbs down MS to screw X-Box buyers-No DVD if you don't buy a remote!

Here's a quote from http://xbox.ign.com/news/29592.html. Bill does it again. Bend over suckers!

IGN Xbox: Let's talk remotes. Can you go into the requirement for DVD playback?

"J. Allard: A big piece of feedback we got back from people [regarding the DVD playback on the PlayStation 2]: one was with the experience with game controller rather than a movie style remote, which was a disappointment. They were let down and disappointed with the experience that was in the box. We got tons of feedback from people saying "put a remote for movie playback in the box. Do it right because we don't want a game controller." But a lot of gamers came back and said "you tell me that Xbox is all about games, and that Microsoft is all about games, and you're asking me about movies?" We sort of combined those two very vocal opinions and said "we're not going to put a remote in the box." If it's really true that people are buying it as a movie machine, and not a gaming machine, that's not really our objective with Xbox. Our objective is to deliver the best gaming experience possible. We combined those two pieces of feedback and said "the right thing to do is to make it a peripheral." People were totally comfortable paying the extra $20-30 bucks to get the remote, particularly if that meant that they could get one at Christmas for the hardcore gaming set, and get a better experience with a remote."

IGN Xbox: You can still use the controller as well, right?

"J. Allard: No, you're going to have to buy a remote. You won't be able to watch a movie without buying the remote package, and I suppose we can also make it controllable by the controller, but the feedback's been really clear about that one."

So what buy the remote. Like, when I got to college I am only going to have one TV in my dorm/apartment. I already have a DVD player. So, no need to have the X-Box's proce be higher to get something I don't need.

actually you gonna spend 100 $ still for the dvd in the xbox, you need to pay another 50 $ to get the software CD and the remote, but its not because you dont buy it that you are saving money, a console at 350$, 100 $ at least is from the DVD

Cmon' Please! They CAN make the the X-Box use both a controller and remote for DVD operation. BUT, won't because MS thinks it should be "simple". BS!!!! You are NOT saving any money because they decided to make it remote ONLY. What they are doing is making sure that IF one day you decide you want to watch a DVD on the X-Box you HAVE to put out another $20-$30! Now, you're saying big deal! Well, 2 million units times $20-$30 is ALOT of money! It's not right! Hell, I have a DVD player already but this nonsense has to stop!

it makes sense because they can make an extra $50 from people that don't have a DVD player, or for others that already have like myself, i don't need to buy it and save myself an extra $50. Anyway thatis why i am going GAMECUBE.

M$ is not giving the X-Box DVD capability just to watch movies. DVD disks hold up to 9.4gig, where as CDs hold up to 700meg. The DVD format is where everything will be in a few years.

    Wassup SharkyForum Readers,

I talked to my friend who owns a PS2, and he said that its good that Microsoft chose to make customers purchase the Remote, because the DVD Playback on the PS2 out of the box, quite simply stated, sucks. If it takes another $30 to get decent DVD Playback, that's fine, after all, this is not a DVD Player folks, this is a "Gaming Console."

Actually, microsoft is making you buy a remote. With the ps2 you can use the game controller OR you can buy a remote for it. btw, I have three DVD players, two top of the line and my ps2 and I wouldn't say the DVD playback on the ps2 sucks. It's not the best, but for $300 bucks you get a game system and an average DVD player. I remember payin $300 for my playstation and just got a game system.
