counter strike smoke

it didnt have a problem with the smoke grenade on my voodoo 3 but it really kills my fps with the kryo 2. i am getting 90fps average and when smoke is around it drops below 10, so its really bad.

are there any fixes for this. i thought it might be because im running 4X FSAA but i turned it off and still get crappy results.

I wrote this before and I was attacked, but I will write what I read in a review again. They said (I wish I could remember who, but trust me it was a review form a well known site) that its a driver issuse. Now I don't know if its been fixed. Do you have the latest drivers?

BTW I don't follow the Kyro too well, so if I am actualy wrong, don't knock me. I am trying to help the best that I can. Also just becasue I am a mod dosen't mean I know everything about computers.

i also read that it is a driver issue with smoke from Kyro cards. lower the complexity...may look bad but no drop in fps. it always drops from over 100 to 30/40 fps when there is a smoke gren.

thanks tu2, that makes the smoke look weird as hell and it doesnt help much.

i got a tip from someone else that told me to set max_smokepuffs to 0 in the console. that helped a bit. now my fps only drops to about 25 when there is smoke on screen. still annoying, but much better.

i have tried the latest drivers from both powervr and hercules. they both have this problem and my fps is a bit higher with the hercules.

anyone got any more suggestions?

how do i lower the complexity? is it a console command?

LOFL your on a 1ghz sytem and you get slowdowns cause of the smoke grens in CS?Boy I never liked Kyro cards but this is just ridicoulous.

Smoke grens dont help?
Umm if you consider sniper cover not help I dont know what u do while playing.For example on cs_siege(i think thats the name I dont remember its the map they added an APC too)
Usually a decent group of Ts will rush and start AWPing,theres a simple solution for that throw a smoke gren they cant see shiet then u just rush in and throw some HE and FB and kill them.

I think he meant that my suggestion didn't help much on his fps problem - I don't think he was talking about the effectiveness of smoke grenades in battle.

yes that is what i mean, i thought i had made that clear. fastsprites 1 causes the smoke to look more white and pixelated and my framerates stay the same for some reason.

thnaks for the tip, this turns out to be the same as changins max_smokepuffs during gameplay. when i put it at 0, my framerates do increase during smoke. its morelike 25fps now, still bad but a little bit better.

ROLF, I remember when my friends and I would call them lag grenades (this was CS beta) during LAN parties and throw it into estate's front yard to freeze the slower computers up! Occasionally when we threw them in we would yell “LAG GRENADE!�, lol.

geez ganja, how about just helping him instead of critising, he didnt ask to be called a moron or to get flamed for his computer and he didnt mention being great at CS, so why the hell you're *****ing I don't know.

as for the problem at hand. You can probably change some settings in the menu's of the game, I think theres a bar in the advancesd player setup or the graphics part where you can set the smoke complexity, that could help. It did on my system, guess not on yours.

I guess duo was right with the driver issue then though, if you can't live with it there's nothing more you can do than *gasp* lower the resolution.

or you could mess around with the source code and simply make the smoke invisible (since its a client side action it should be possible) you could probably make a .ini file and bind a key to an exec command or something, Just ask any aimbot guy to do it for ya

my advice is not to play CS though... i've managed to get some of my life back since i stopped the addiction lol
