Unhappy What are you waiting on....

I have not bought a game in ages. I dont plan on buying any time soon.

What would make me slap my money down?
A good RTS or RPG... defining good is just opninion... i'm an old gamer, but i wont start getting into the nostalgia...

i want a fallout3 thats 5 times bigger than f1/f2, more openendedness, more side quests (more wastlandish).. or an eye of the beholder 4 (i could easily live with the same 10ft 90degree turn chunk-chunk system of eob1/2/3... without 'full 3d')...

i have not found an RTS that I enjoyed since c&c... admittedly I like some of the initial quests in tibsun.. (i dont netplay my games...)

every time i pickup an rts i feel the monotony set right in. build-build-build. yawn. i dunno. RTS feel like they have worn thin...

the worst thing is, i have the itch to spend and buy a new game.. i just feel there is nothing 'worth' buying. why should I reward a gamehouse/dev team with my purchase when the end result is dogmeat (steel soldiers anyone??)...

an rts thats more wargamy than worrying about 'mine/chopwood/pump oil/harvest spice', thats deeper in the tactics and so-on, set in chinas warring history, or that..

update some of those classic OOP/SSG wargames from turn-based to real-time.

i'm not sure where i am going with this now.. feels like the predominance of tv consoles (ps1/2/dc/et-al) and the perceived demand that all games must be 3d fps networking warpigs has kinda glossed over a lot of things...

(most dev money appears to be going into the console stream than pc stream. and the pc stream what percentage is non 3dfps stuff?)

it also appears that since game dev houses thing 3d is the be-all-end-all, it has kinda killed off adventuring/rpging. what does '3d' bring to adventure gaming? how much depth does zork grand inquisitor have vs fish? (its an extreme example 3d vs text) different interfaces brings different 'puzzle solving', either the 'defining' interface for 3d adventures has not been found, or it does not exist.

3d for both rpg/adventure has something missing that old style rpg/adventures didnt lack. if i can see it, i want to interact with it. fallout1/2 moved into bringing a kind of depth to the '3d rpg', but overall seems to be lacking greatly all over the place in games of the same.

if zork1 was done in 3d, how many of its puzzles could not have been replicated and vice versa for myst/zork-gi...

i pose to you a quandary... is the interface more important than the plot/story? to rate one above the other and not equally... would you choose interface? or would you chose plot/story?

at what point does an interface make the best plot/story irrelevant because its unplayable? would you slog through it?

look at falcon 4 + descent freespace2, etc.
every key on the keyboard (upper+lower) is mapped to different control type thing.. i thought DF2 was fantastic, except for trying to work the damn controls.. f4 as well..

overcomplex or too simplistic for an ultimate falcon flight simulator?

i dont remmeber how i got from my opening question to the topic of my last incoherant paragraph.. I think that means i should shutup and sign off and get back to work...

    Lightbulb

I feel your pain, I have put off buying a new game for a very long time intill this weekend when I couldn't take it any longer.

I also want a Fallout 3 that takes 2 months to finish...

But what did I buy? 3D games that are sweet for a while and then are done and have left you with a feeling not unlike chinese food.

    So you are not alone.

And if you liked eye of the beholder (awesome game I still have it) and Fallout (my favorite game of all time) then why not try on one of the Baldur's Gate games? (the second is the better of the two) they have a great story interesting dialog and eye-dazzleing 2D graphics.
