Question Network Server vs. Desktop Computer

What actual changes are made in the Win 9x operating system when you change between the two modes for a hard drive?

Windows using more system memory for disk caching(vfat). The network server uses a whopping 40k! LOL! So I'm sure you have enough memory to use it. You can find all the info you need about tweaking win9x at:

When I read the title of this post, I figured it would be about computer architecture, so your message comfuses me. In Windows 9x, I don't know of any hard drive atributes that allow your computer differentiate between a desktop and server. In Windows NT, you have the option of chaging your hard drive's file system to NTFS vs. the FAT16/32 file system of Windows 9x, if that's what you mean. Is that what you mean?

hes talking about the "typical role of this computer." Using the server type increases the cache management i think, but it does boot performance. Ive been trying to find this in win2k, but no luck. Mabee the 2 roles are in win2k Pro and win2k server seperate?

I know what you are talking about. It simply means that Windows caches more frequently used data to the hdd and ram. Speeds up performance slightly

While I'm not certain what the actual differences are between the two settings, I'm confident that installing CahceMan is a better choice than either one.
