    Post Windows Registry Error (Win2000)

When I try to install ANYTHING I get this error:
"System\CurrentControllSet\Config\VirtualDeviceDrivers .vdd. Virtual driver format in the registry is invalid."
The choices are: Close or Ignore.

If I pick Close then the installation aborts but if I click ignore the installation goes fine and the application works.

Any ideas on how to get rid of this error? Or what caused it in a first place?

I've only seen this message in W2K when someone has tried to install an incompatible 16 bit app. Don't know about other issues that might cause it, but this does mean that there's an invalid registry entry at

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\V DD

Use Regedit.exe to delete the VDD value name. (REGEDT32 will likely not be able to see the value if it is corrupt or invalid.) Use REGEDT32.EXE to Add Value name "VDD" of REG_MULTI-SZ type. Enter nothing in the Multi-String Editor. Hit the OK button, then quit REGEDT32.EXE.

    Regards,
    Jim
