I'll have you know that Win2k is the monst stable OS on the market for any use. Win2k will inspire a respect for Microsoft that you have never known. I was pissed off enough with win98 enough to buy a linux distrubution, but I bought Win2k instead. I'm glad I did.

Win98 is only as bad as the programs and drivers you have installed. I have a bare bones Win98 install, and it's quite stable. I also have a dual boot to win2k, where I run everything except games. Win2k is more tolerant to programs or drivers (or hardware) that suck. I have all my stuff installed on win2k, and I can run tons of programs over weeks at a time without rebooting. It is a great OS for sure, and I would never try the same things in Win98.

Totally amusing!

I think it's easy to slag MS for code bloat. Mainly because it's true. But I've noticed that some Linux distro's *cough*redhat*cough* are starting to be just as flakey.

I wish it werent so, because a good viable alternative on the desktop is a good thing. Look at how much AMD drives Intel. We need someone to drive Miscrosoft in the same way!

LOL, amusing. However, including Win2k in your windows bashing seems to indicate that you have never used it. I noticed you didn't include WinNT in this bash session. Were you aware that Win2k is based on NT, not on win95 technology?

I have used them all extensively, particularly for gaming. Arguably, gaming on an os can stress it far more than many other common tasks. Using win2k for all my tasks since Feb 17, I have not had a single os crash yet. With all the other abovementioned os's my systems crashed several times weekly.

All in all, Windows 2000 is in a class by itself. Grouping it with those other os's shows your lack of experience with it.

I have been running win2K since it came out and it has truly been great. I had NT4 prior to that and that was solid the kick but thing about win2K is direct X. I used both OS's for gaming win2K being alot more friendly. I am running on a dual p2 400mhz. Very happy, ready for P4!

Whatever dude....trying Win2k as a Domain Controller/Web Server for my company and it sucked big time, when it was up it was slow and that wasn't often...the whole os might not crash often but IIS sure as hell does. Any unix flavor running apache can woop it with speed and reliability any day of the week.
