freeBSD questions
Well I am currently installing 4.5 (yes I know, I have been claiming I was going to do it for weeks...I finally am now)
During install X86 config failed.
I know that the card (onboard actually) is supported under the Mach64 server. I was told to install the server, but I am not sure what that really means, this was something that I took for granted in linux as X worked from the start
Thanks for any suggestions of where to go read up....

XFree86 does have support for your card, so you don't have to install any additional servers. Try using "XF86_Mach64" in your XF86Config file. Note the case sensitivity because by default it may have used one that is all lowercase, and that one does not work.

ok, well I got it to run...so right now I am posting from my freeBSD box
I am still needing many tweaks, but it's early right
My next question, I use the command line a lot of the time for simple stuff and don't actually hang out in X to much. When I logout, it drops down a few lines and displays the prompt.
The problem is that you can see what I was doing up above. Do you know where to change the settings so that when I logout the screen is initially blanked?

Nevermind on the logout thing.
I got it by adding the .logout file to my home directory with the command 'clear' in it.

Me again.
Two things
Do you know how to get the mouse wheel to work?
Second, I didn't notice before because I logged out as soon as I was in, but in X my screen is "zoomed" in on a section of a larger virtual area, and to move around I have to put the mouse at the edge of the screen and "push" the boundary around. What did I do wrong that causes this? Where do I fix it?

For the scrollwheel problem, lots of luck. You can edit XF86Config to include the "zaxis 4 5" option, I believe its the same one linux uses. If that doesn't work, you can install imwheel and see if you can make that work. I have yet to make mine work and have been unsuccessful. I gave up trying over a year ago but hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.
For your virtual screen resolution, you just need to edit XF86Config. Just find the "Virtual" option under the Display section and comment it out.
good luck and let me know if you need any other help
