Quick question about onboard RAID controllers

If your motherboard has onboard raid, I'm assuming it also has 2 regular IDE ports also. if thats not the case...then disregard, otherwise, Can you use the 2 RAID ports as regular IDE ports?? or can you only use them if you are running a RAID configuration.

    thanks

Both boards I've had with onboard RAID have been able to run HD's on them also. They aren't required to work in RAID as long as the controller supports it. Most are as far as I can remember

yeah, thats what I figured, I just wanted to find out for sure before I wasted $20 or so on a board with raid that I didn't use.
