    Unhappy Help! Please...

I just recently got components for a new system : p4 1.7ghz Asus p4T( socket 423 I believe) mobo and 512mb Rambus ( rdram or whatever), geforce 2 mx400 64mb agp video, sb live sound, 400watt power supply/case..
Now I put everything together and the system turns on, but there's no video. I tried a few differenct video cards, both agp and pci...no luck. There was a post earlier about the bios being outdated with a similar setup+symptoms, which caused the mobo not to take the cpu... how can I get it to work, any advice please? I cant get a slower CPU to plug in so I can update bios or anything

Some newer mobos are defaulted to use a PCI video slot... hard to change when you've got an AGP in there. Might need to boot w/a PCI and change the setting, swap out the card... hopefully. Your smilie made me

I've got a P4T-E and was having a similar problem until I discovered that my RDRAM was not correctly installed...Do you have the required 2 sticks of RAM (if you have 512mb, I'm hoping you have 2 sticks of 256mb RAM since just 1 stick of 512mb will give you problems) and the C-RIMMS (that came with the board), installed? Are you sure they're installed in the correct banks?

Ya know I just realized.. with some RDRAM boards you need "dummy" RAM sticks to fill the slots not in use. They lock in and complete the loop... dunno why they are designed like this, kind of silly if you ask me.

I didn't know there was a technical term for them. Kinda like those plastic caps on the end of your shoelaces... they're just there doing their thing and no one knows what they are called.

When you start your system are there any error beeps?
After I put my first rig together (the core components) and turned it on th test the connections I got an error beep. When I looked up the code on my mobo's web site I learned it was not reading my ram. Even though the sticks were in and the latches had closed down fully, they were just a hair too short to make the neccessary contact. Just a little extra push and I was right as rain.

    No, no beeps.
There is however 1 thing I noticed. Whenever I turn the computer on, the usual high pitched-type sound ( hd spinning up or whatever...you know the sound when powering up the comp) starts but then there's a soft * beep * ( not really a beep just a soft clicking-type sound) and my system stops ( yes the video still doesnt work)....Any clue on what that is? Maybe that is the problem? I checked my ram a dozen times...cpu, connections, everything. Could that sound be the problem and what can it possibly mean?
