heat from a tbird over a duron...

right now i have a duron 800 running at 1155. my temps are at about 37c idle and 43c full load. i like that. now im wondering, im prolly gonna get a tbird 1.2 or 1.4 and start ocing the hell out of it too but ive heard alot about tbirds being warmer than durons and such....my friend has the exact same case as i do and exactly the same amound of case fans except he has a slighty better than stock hsf on his 1 gig tbird and his runs at 43c idle. i dont want my temps running that high if i go from a duron to a tbird......

The 1.4GHz T-Bird is the hottest damn Athlon they make. If you're going to OC, then you'll need some kick-*** cooling.

you got that right. my 1.4 thunderbird is idling at 60 celcius with stock cooling, time to put my vantec heatsink back on, but it drives me nuts...DAmn!!.

garsh darnit guys!! thats kinda crappy. how bout a 1.2? is that a bit cooler? my case is pretty cool as it is(25c) so all i need to worry about is the actual cpu cooling in general. i mean, you would think that with a really cool case that it would help the overall temps of the proc right?

DO NOT try to OC a 1.2 or 1.4 Ghz T-bird unless you have water cooling or a swifty and a bazillion case fans. I have a nice, large, roomy case, 4 case fans, and a CoolerMaster HHC-001 w/ 6800RPM fan on my 1.2 Ghz T-bird and I'm idling at 48*C!!! Load temps go over 54*C. The HHC-001 may not be the best HSF out there, but it's pretty darn good. With my old Global Win HSF (one of their best, had a crappy fan on it though) my load temps would go over 60*C and my computer would automaticly reboot itself all the time. I'd go for a XP 1600+ - the XP's run alot cooler than the T-birds (they shoulda called them Fire Birds

I got 1.4 ghz tbird in a Antec case with 4 80mmcase fans and 4 92 mm case fans a cheapo Coolmaster DP5......running at 33c idle and 38c full load.....there seems to be a huge variance in heat from chip to chip from what I have read.....even when I was running with just 2 80mm case fans I was running 44c idle and 49 full load.

Ok, if you want quiet, try the Zalman all copper flower heatsink with 92mm fan.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and my 1.4GHz 266Mhz FSB T-Bird runs at 48C whilst surfing and playing a CD. I recently ordered a Panaflo M1A 120mm fan to see if that will help reduce the temps even more. It should. I should receive it today or tomorrow. Will let you know.

If you are tired of your sreamin Delta or whatever, try the Zalman. If it can keep a 1.4 cool, then that's sayin sumpin. Right?

The extra circuitry of the Tbird necessitates that it will run hotter. However, why worry about a 50ºC cpu temp if the thing is 100% stable for you? I've got a 1.4Tbird myself and on regular air running it on 1.85v and 1.64Ghz produced a max temp of 46ºC. Admittedly I have a good cooler the SK-6 and Arctic Silver and a 120mm fan directly over the HSF. But the point is that stability is more an issue than temps. Sure you want to be as cool as possible but the point remains the same.

That's cute and a great point pricing for XP1500-1700 makes them a very cheap buy and barely cost more than a 1.4Tbird. And as aforementioned they do run significantly cooler than Tbirds

very true.....would an epox 8kha+ run an xp? sorry if its a dumb question, ive never really looked into the xp's before. i didnt really have the money for a new mobo and such but as im getting my tax returns and such....yehaaa!! more money, more hardware! the main thing is i just dont want to be dealing with unlocking the stupid thing and then just relying on fsb by itself. how high do you think i could take, ummm lets say a xp 1700, with fsb?

I disagree. The 1.33 tbird is the hottest running athlon

I just ordered a 1.33 i got my current duron 750 at 900 and i am idleing at 45c . guess i have some work to do
