    This is becoming depressing :(

Have no clue what else to try.. My first built computer ran pretty much good up until I tried XP.. I know some of you think XP is perfect and if there are any problems then its the users fault, but omg Microsoft made a product for high end tech guys only. Right now my big problem is getting video to work. Currently typing this in 640x480res with 4 colors. Have tried installing newest drivers I've had multiple times even in safe mode and this is how they turn out. With no drivers it appears in 1024x768. Thinking maybe the drivers are corrupt so downloading the 27.50 drivers right now off visiontek's site. My 3rd time attempting to download them though because I get the random blue screen with Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal with the 0x000000D1 which support database says might be a hardware conflict and you should unplug everything from your computer which havn't tried yet but guess it cant hurt. Also have gotten Bad_Pool_Caller which I didnt understand anything the database had to say about that. I like XP but about to say screw it there are to many problems and go back to 98 where my only problem is the occasional blue screens, explorer errors, and computer running 80mhz slower than its supposed to.

I've thought about RMAing my mobo, processor, and ram back to newegg for replacements (WOULD return the stuff and buy different mobo/proc but its been over 30 days) but I'm not exactly sure how that works. I know how to request the RMA but once I get the number where do I ship it? Can I just put the 3 things back in original packaging and put those in some package and put RMA number on outside? I'm sure I'll have to pay for shipping there but do they charge to ship the new stuff back? ANY help with anything would be greatly appretiated right now

Hmm just thought of this.. I get XP, reformat comp, install XP, XP loads etc etc etc... I remembered though that when I built my comp when I first started it up I had to install drivers for a trillion different things and the computer detected that many things, which hasnt been hapening lately when I install it. Thinking this could be because I havnt unplugged anything and plugged it back in for the system to recognize its new.. So maybe half my stuff is sharing same IRQ address which might be causing this problem. Ill fully take apart system later and rebuild it and see if that helps at all. Btw, should I use NFTS instead of FAT32? I have been just wondering if I shouldnt be. Thanks

Well for one thing, xp will being automatically installing three quarters of the drivers if not all of the drives, you would have had to manually install under win98. the file system in this case is not causing a problem, irregardless of whether you use ntfs or fat32 you are going to blue screen. Because I dont know what stop codes you are receiving or whether you are receiving memory dumps or hardcore driver page faults i cant offer much more help. However wiping everything out and starting fresh again, and as a rule I would install detenator 21.88 for xp and your card, this driver has proven to be very stable as a troubleshooting platform. install and test one thing at a time in this case, the video driver being the first thing to tackle, no other driver including vias or on board controller drivers, etc will be required BEFORE the video driver in your case, so concerntrate on getting the video driver stable, then worry about installing drivers for the rest of your hardware, this will then show your trouble point if a problem arises down the road. you will have all ground points covered.

jsut re-read your post, try grabbing a plain jane reference driver and not manufacturer driver for the time being, i would hate nothing more then to see the manufacture added feature rich driver be conflicting with existing software, wich is why i alway suggest the troublesome device be the first to be installed and setup, therefore if probles arise after the fact you can determine which, if problems arise during that time, then you know its a windows xp or hardware related conflict. likewise, just ensure you have no cards sitting in pci slot 1, this is the first pci slot sitting just under the agp port. windows xp, like windows 2000 shares all harddware across one irq, very-very rarley will this cause a problem, because on the application interface and driver layer, each device is kept in real-mode, which means that its irq is transparent to all but itself, limiting irq conflicts like which were possible with any win9x based platforms, which relied on a properly written driver.

    give that a try

    good luck
