If they can make it to run on something like the PS2 then I'm sure the minimum requirements would be a little lower than that. But hey, IF they released it I wouldn't care, I'd run out and buy a copy and upgrade (if needed) to play it.

I wouldn't necessarily say that...the PS2 is a completely different architecture remember. It's not that it's necessarily more powerful than a PC, just that code written for the PS2 cannot easily be converted to the PC. So, you would need an "emulation" of some sorts. This leads to less performance, more bugs, etc. That is, unless they decided to rewrite the entire code for the game.
I'll give you an example, Final Fantasy VII ran on a PSX. A PSX has 2 megs of RAM, a 33 mHz processor and a double-speed CD-ROM. No harddrive space, 1 meg of video RAM, 64k of audio ram.
The PC version required (when I say require, I mean a system that could play the game EXACTLY the same speed as the PSX version) a Pentium 200, 16-32 megs of RAM, 4 meg 3D Video card (PREFERABLY a Voodoo1 or a Voodoo2), a 100% Soundblaster Compatible card, preferably with Yamaha-XG or SoundFont technology to be able to play the music, 8X CD-ROm....
Of course, the PC version ran at 640X480, but even if you lowered the res down to 320X240, it still ran pretty badly on anything lower than a Pentium 166.

yes, but squaresoft always does bad conversions to PC, it pisses me off. They could make it so much better for pc but they don't and it still takes 2+ years to make a conversion to pc. I want to play FFX but dont wanna shell over the $300 for a ps2 when all i want is 1 game...

It takes too much time to convert an entire engine over to the PC AND make it better. Remember, when they originally made FFVII for the PSX, they had limited hardware to work with. So, they rendered all of the static backgrounds in 340X200 (NTSC resolution), because, in the end, it still looked pretty good on a television screen.
However, you try displaying that same 340X200 image on a computer monitor....dear god, it looks streched and washed out!
It would have been too much to try and re-render ALL of the static backgrounds for that game, especially because it had already been almost 1.5 years since it came out. So, they stretched them out and added some bilinearing filtering techniques to try and make the image a little less "washed-out" looking.
It's much more difficult that simply copying and pasting all of the code for FFVII onto the PC .
