    DS vs. D2

Ok, I LOVE Diablo 2: LOD, I have played it more than any other game ever. But its fun is starting to wane, and I need some "fresh meat". I hear that Dungeon Seige is "diablo-like" but not a diablo clone... What is that supposed to mean??!? I liked baldurs gate somewhat, but I really dont want another game like it. I want a fun MP game, that is also great for single play (like D2). Is there a demo anywheres for DS? I would like to try it out....

It's closer to hardcore RPG's than Diablo was, but both of which are still pretty far away from. Some of the big gameplay differences are controlling a party of characters as opposed to one, much more freedom within your character since there isn't a laid-out set of skills. Not to mention the nice 3D engine. My only current nag is that it's rarely a straightforward path to your goal; I don't mean that I want the goal right in front me, but I rarely know if I'm going the right way, or even in the right region. Again, I'm sure that nag will go away as I progress and become accustomed to the game.

but the thing is, is it close enough to the "fun" of D2, where you would be able to play for hours on end, and all you have been doing is point-click or is there alot more involved? I really like the simplicity of D2, but i guess a little more complication is ok. I just want to make sure that I dont go buy another Baldurs Gate 2 (not that it was a bad game, but that I dont want to play anything like that again) i would however like another D2.

um.....what? what does "you should shoot play" mean? and what are "real" games to you? I dont think you should be so quick to judge a game you have never played. AND I dont *only* play "RPG".

especially considering back in the day text RPG's were the greatest things going, Zork and Crystal caveren are still some of the best games Ive ever played, no my friend without RGP's PC gaming would be but a shell of what it is now.

Well, first of all you can have up to 4 forms of attacking... Melee combat (close range, i.e. swords), ranged combat (bows), and two forms of magic, consisting of nature and combat. You can choose how each character reacts to situations independently, such as the freedom to attack any enemy in the vicinity, or attacking only when attacked (or commanded to). Also, if an enemy is within a certain range, you can set your characters to hold their ground or run out and attack. Lots of different stuff. Actual fighting is fairly simple; just left-click the enemy once, or hold the cursor over them and hit 'A'. They'll keep attacking till you or the enemy dies. I haven't played all that much of it yet, but it's VERY addictive.

Especially since there's barely any games that are clearly defined using one genre. Imagine no RPG influence; most current FPS wouldn't exist, like Thief, Deus Ex, etc.

I would keep with d2 LOD. True and true to all that **** going on in diablo, but hey, you choose who you want to play with. And also I think that people will get bored with any type of game according to some hc rpg players. eg: Killing cows 100 times with all of them cring " no king, no king" is really hilarios, and boring. Yeah, you may lvl fast, but than what is your goal? Me and some of my friends are coming back to dia ii even if the eco is real bad, but instead of doing cows all day, we actually do all the quests and lvl in act5 hell in all places. Yeah, it ain;t as fast in lvling or such, but you can get yourself killed, and that is the best part. A challenge is what makes something fun, not hours of killing MOO MOO MOO.
And a game is great if you play with your friends.

I personally don't think Dungeon Seige is all that great. They took Diablo and Baldars Gate and mashed them together. I will say the Graphics are really good and the 3D engine is cool as well, especially the way you can spin around and look at your enviroment. In my opinion Dungeon Seige lacks originality and doesn't bring anything new to the table except maybe some exceptional graphics and a skill based type of levelling in that enviroment as opposed to level based. I'd give it a 5/10 and the only reason I'd be that generous is because the graphics. After the wow factor wore off I was seriously disappointed with the game, I was really looking forward to it.

    My 0.02 cents

It almost doesn't share anything from Bulder's Gate. Dungeon Siege is more about hack and slash with great graphics, so it is exactly the next big thing that Diablo fans were waiting for. Bulder Gate's fans however wouldn't be that interested in it because they care a lot more about the story. I belong more to the first group by the way

But my true belonging is to the Might & Magic series kind of RPG (First Person RPG). W00t! Might & Magic IX is released

I think most people will choose a new game over something they've been playing for two years. I played the crap out of D2 twice, and I'll probably never touch it again.

Huh huh....... you said 'doing cows all day'.

The new patch should make game play a lot more exciting.
