    Post Internet security question.....

Recently I purchased Nortons Internet security. Previously I was using another firewall.

Today I was surfing the net and I decided to open another IE window. When I did Norton detected some unknown program trying to access the internet. Luckily I had Norton's firewall setup to prompt me before allowing anything to access the internet.

I was really confused because the icon listed was very strange and it was a program I didnt recognize. I didnt allow it to access the net and immediately ran virus scan. There were no viruses on my system.

I guess my question/point is that I get the feeling Ive been hacked. I have a broad band connection and I usually leave my system on all day. The other day I came home and there were 700+ attacks on my system. I constantly get backdoor subseven trojan horse warnings!

Am I overracting or is there a possibility something is up?

I'd say that's a bit too many attacks for random probes.

here's some info about subseven, including steps to remove it http://www.commodon.com/threat/threat-sub7.htm

Does your firewall tell you which ports are being probed?

There's always the small possibility that your IP range has a large number of infected IIS servers. I only get in the range of 200-400 hits a day.

Im not sure but I'll check into that.

On a side note, I just noticed your sig. Ironically I just read that very quote for the first time yesterday. I found it very interesting. How sad it is that so many do in fact joyfully march to the music in rank and file. Makes you wonder what will ultimately happen here on earth.

Yup, it stuck in my head the first time I saw it. I try to live by the words.
