I have failed my duty
A week or so ago one of my friend bought a load of parts to upgrade his computer including a new mobo and processor. A day later he came in and said it wouldn't work and I offered to take a look at it thinking he didn't seat the DDR correctly or something of that sort. He demanded to take it to CompUSA for them to look at it and fix it.
He came to me on monday and said it wouldn't work because the processor was broken. I asked what was broken. He replied
"When I was putting the thing with the fins on the processor the instructions said to put some of the white stuff it came with on it. It disn't say how much, so I didn't put any on it."
You can assume what happened, and that he RMA'd everything for new stuff. I'm kicking myself now for not being more demanding to help him. I guess I'll have wait for the new parts to come to show him how to do it right.

trial and error is a great way to learn and anyway if it is all getting rma'd he didn't lose anything except some shipping cost it could have been way worse

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is save a person from their own ignorance.
Like you said, he demanded. Unless he is a child, you did all you could. We cannot save everyone.

You have failed us all. You are now required to send me your CPU in working order ASAP.
Heh...there is nothing you could about it. Your friend should have been smart enough to ask for your help in the first place

Hopefully I can help him out this time.

Whoa, the story was exactly the opposite my first time, my friend refused to help me when I asked...didn't want to do it 1st time w/o anyone over my shoulder. I did know enough not to put the as3 all over the ceramic, just had touble cliping that fan in...wasn't willing to put that much force on it, and my screw driver was like 3 inches lon total, so if you could imagine, it was really inefficient and wouldn't clip on. Had someone else help me through that part and I pretty much did the rest. But what kinda fool refuses help, and then demand freaking compusa to look at it? I think almost everyone should have at least watched some one put something similar to their system together before going at it blindly. But I do hope you help him the second time.

You'd have to know him to understand him.
