My P4 1.6A (Northwood) Benchmark + Overclocking Results!! Whoa!

    Previous Rig:

Pentium IV (Willamette) 1.7 Ghz. @ 1.96 Ghz. (460 FSB)
    MSI 850 Pro5 Motherboard @ 115 FSB
    Samsung 256 MB PC-800 RDRAM @ 944 MHz.

    3DMark score = 8500 (using a GeForce3 Ti 500 @ 250/550)

Sold these 3 components for the same price i got the stuff below (CPU + RAM + Motherboard) >>

Intel Pentium IV (Northwood) 1.6A @ 2.46 GHz. (612 FSB)
    Hercules 3D Prophet III Titanium 500 @ 250/550 MHz.
    ABIT TH7II Motherboard @ 153 FSB
    Samsung 512 MB PC-800 RDRAM @ 918 MHz.
Samsung SyncMaster 753DF 17' Inch Flat CRT
Seagate Barracuda 40GB 7200 RPM HDD

First of all, this motherboard is THE BEST MOTHERBOARD I EVER HAD.
very nice overclocking features. Best of all, you can set the AGP/PCI divider to 2/3 or 2/4 or even FIXED!! Amazing really!

Viva and ManojM told me i MIGHT be able to hit 140 FSB with the motherboard. So i wasn't all excited about that, didn't think i would get to 140 FSB since i always get not very overclockable things

Anyway, the moment i installed everything. I booted at 2.13 Ghz. straight away, didn't even try 1.6 Ghz. to see if the thing even works and......VOILA! boots perfect, ran 3dmark successfully. and got a score of 9240 3DMarks!! a VERY LARGE increase over my previous setup and still using the SAME video card. i guess i'm pumping every bit of performance out of it now! Motherboard was running at 133 MHz., and CPU FSB was @ 533 MHz. and RAM was running at a STUNNING 1064 MHz!!

I ran the system like that for 6-7 hours...VERY STABLE! i was so glad i reached 533 FSB and was able to overclock to 2.13 Ghz. with just air cooling and run very stable straight out of the box! i didn't even try higher.

Then the overclocking temptations start coming into my mind

i reached all the way to 2.5 Ghz. but the temp was kinda high.

I booted at 2.46 Ghz (612 MHz. FSB), Motherboard @ 153 MHz, and i set the RAM to 300 MHz. instead of 400 MHz. so the RAM is running now at 918 MHz. (3 * 153 * 2 = 918 MHz.)

Whoa!! i was blown away!! the motherboard is reaching 153 FSB and even 160 FSB STABLE without any mods or anything!! this motherboard is just AWESOME! anyway, i had a feeling that i won't be able to even see the 3dmark screen since i was at a very high speed for CPU AND the motherboard. and i was only using the stock HSF. Well, i ran 3dmark and whoa!! it is VERY stable in everything, 3dmark, games, etc... just like i had bought a 2.46 GHz. Northwood (running at 612 FSB)!!!!

my final 3dmark now is 9573!!! VERY large increase over my previous rig since i am using the same video card. I was never pleased about a purchase like this before!! i would recommend this setup to anyone who wants high performance without breaking the bank!

PS: compare link for 3dmark score is in sig (3DMark score u see below is when i benchmarked at 2.4 Ghz.... not @ 2.46 GHz., will post final 3dmark later)

i get 231 FPS in Quake III @ 1024*768*32 High Quality Details
    Sony GRX520Notebook

Intel Pentium 4 M (Northwood Core) 1.6 GHz. CPU
    Intel i845D Chipset
256 MB Samsung PC2100 DDR SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32 MB DDR SDRAM
    15.0" XGA TFT Screen
    30 GB Removable HDD
    DVD/CD-RW Combo (16X Write/10X Rewrite)
    Logitech MX300 Optical Mouse
    Motorola SB4200 Cable Modem (384/128 K)

    thanks dude

my RDRAM would reach 1066 MHz. easily

it is Samsung double dided 256x2 Pc-800 Modules

i will post the pics of SiSoft Sandra later on when i get back from school. i gotta leave now.

RDRAM haters? that's the first time i hear that  (new to this board) why would anyone hate RDRAM? it costs just a little more over DDR RAM now and OVERCLOCK + Performs WAY better!

if u wanna go with a P4 setup, u definatly have to go with an RDRAM + i850 chipset. u can't go wrong with that!

Okay, this Jewish guy and Chinese guy have been best friends since like grade school. One day, the Jewish guy is mad for some reason so he says to the Chinese guy, "I am tired of your people!" The Chinese guy says, My people?! What did they do? The Jewish guy says, You bombed Pearl Harbor! The Chinese guy goes, You idiot! That was the Japanese! The Chinese did nothing! The Jewish guy goes, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, its the same thing. The Chinese guy says, Yeah, well I hate your people. The Jewish guy says, What?! My people?! What have they done? The Chinese guy says, You sunk the Titanic! The Jewish guy says, What are you talking about you moron!? That was an iceberg, not a Jew! The Chinese guy says, Iceberg, Greenberg, Rosenberg, its the same thing!

i dunno what ur talking about m8

but i got this RAM 2 days ago, so it should be the latest revision or whatever u wanna call it it has a sort of a silver heatsink on both sides of each chip. Very high quality RAM.

it would run @ 1064 MHz. (if i set my CPU to 2.13 Ghz. along with setting the ram to 400 MHz. (4*133*2 = 1064 MHz.) but i am forced to run it at 3x mode (or 300 mhz.) coz it won't go that high.

currently @ (3*153*2 = 918 MHz.) Still very good IMO

thanks for the warm welcome y'all

i chose this place coz i was bored at Tech-PC, not alot of users. i got more replies here in 30 minutes than what i got there in 1 day

and YES that is with the STOCK HSF, i stated that in my original message

didn't even touch 1.6 GHz. straight out of the box to 2.13 GHz. then to 2.45 Ghz.!

the Northwood is an overclocker's dream really! and VERY CHEAP ($135 dollars)

In reference to my other question , the more devices your RAM has the better it OC's. Observing your insane OC Im guessing you have a 16 device version (highest there is for 256mb) .

i think it is...this is what Sandra says...

    Memory Module 1:
    Samsung MR16R 082GBN1-CK8 3A09321C 256MB/16 (128Mx16) RDRAM RIMM PC800 (CL2-2 Upto 411 MHz.)

what do u think? i see alot of 16s around

I believe this is the best OC of a 1.6a amongst SF members thus far?

No way, someone has gotta be higher than that! That really ain't that high from what I've read elsewhere. I'll headon try and beat that if noone else can... I got 1.6a @ 2.4 w/ 1.625 volts. My temps are 48 full load. I know I could reapply my AS3 beter and accept higher temps and beat 153 fsb.

Hey Max, what r your temps @ that speed?

BTW Unfortunately I can't benchmark right now out of sisoft, unless you really wanna see how well my TNT2MX can perform, lol. I'm still waiting for my ATI 8500 from buy.com which has been on backorder for over a month alrdy!
    My Rig:
