Morrowind special FX - GeForce4 only?

I've heard a lot of hype about some of the cooler fx in Morrowind (such as raindrops hitting puddles etc) only being available to GF4 owners. Is this true or just more of the usual GF4 hype?

I'd have though it was a DirectX 8.1 feature and was therefore viewable on any DX8.1 compliant card (such as a Radeon 8500)?

This will probably affect whether I buy a Rad8500 or GF4-4200.

No, the raindrops are available no matter what graphics card you by (as long as it meets min requirements). As long as you have a GeForce 3 Ti200 or better you can see everything in the game as it's meant to be viewed. I don't think GeForce 2's and earlier have pixel shaders, I could be wrong though.

Nope. GF2's and GF4 MX video cards don't have pixel shaders.

The GF4 ti4200 will be alot better and faster than the Radeon.
I fully reccomend you get the Ti4200.
    Good Luck

That is incorrect. The GeForce 2 line does have real-time Pixel Shaders. Take a look at the NVIDIA official site for reference.

Edit: I´m afraid that I might be wrong here. On the webpage it states:

"NVIDIA's latest addition to the GeForce2 family of GPUs, the GeForce2 Ultra™, delivers the high visual quality you've come to expect from NVIDIA—complete with second generation transform and lighting, real-time per-pixel shading with the NVIDIA Shading Rasterizer™ (NSR), and stellar high-definition video processing capabilities."

I thought this was applying to the entire GeForce 2 line, so I was incorrect. Sorry Gateway_Rules..

no they dont run 3d mark 2001, and it skips these tests because there is no hardware support. I think these cards can emulate these effects in software, but it cuts into your framerates big time

Most reviews I've read say that MorroWind runs fine on a GF3TI200. Only occasional slowdowns. Turn of Shadows though and something else that really doesn't do much. I always turn shadows off anyhow. I believe you can even turn off the pixel shader FX if you want more performance, but it kills the nice water.
