To format just type format C: then it will ask whether you want to and you hit y for yes and it formats for ya.

    "TRYING TO RECOVER 7869 byts".
When you get this type message during the format process it means that some data is being recovered from a cluster or portion of you disk that is bad. If the format is sucessful then the bad clusters are marked and not used.Usually this condition gets worse. You begin to see scandisk run on startup more and more often as the bad clusters grow in numbers. I have only had limited success with hard drives when this begins to happen. I would suggest a new hard drive.

My Father's 6 year old hard disk started getting bad sectors and six months later the disk was dead.

So you might have a while, or a moment before it dies too.

Amen. Let's have a moment of silence......... Now, Let's see, go do fdisk, format and Fresh install of Win98(SE) and then do a thorough of Windows update via the web......Ohh, and makesure u undo your specialty(the overclocking from 166 to 266:rolleyes: while you do above chores....... And with a little bit of lucks this time around, u will have a nice n sound system to play with instead of those popular "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATHSssss"...... ok.......here we go again.......AMEN.

This Girl Needs a new hard drive!!! You will probably never have a dependable system until you replace it. Sorry!
