Mp3 Pro?

I just got an invite to become a BETA tester for the new MusicMatch Jukebox 7.2. This player includes an option of encoding audio in the new MP3 PRO format in addition to the traditional MP3 and WMA formats. Does anyone know what this new MP3 PRO format is all about? Is it better?

man...y musicmatch when winamp is much better?

i don't think any audio player will get close to winamp in the near future.

It is better.. esentially MP3 PRO files encoded in 64kbps are supposedly as good as an MP3 in 128kbps.

I have no data to back those claims up though.

I disagree. When it comes to sound quality I think it is fair to say that Coolplayer is better than Winamp.

Yea, ever since I discovered coolplayer I hardly ever use Winamp.

I didnt ask you what player you prefer. I asked about MP3 PRO format. So far, Adishar is the only one who paid attention. And FYI, as far as the features that are important to me, nothing comes even close to MusicMatch Jukebox

Regarding the Mp3 Pro technology.. Adisharr mentioned that a 64kbit file encoded with MP3 Pro technology would sound just as good as a 128 kbit file with without Mp3 Pro. That almost sounds correct to me. This is due to the SBR technology (Spectral Band Replication)which enables a sophisticated way of bitrate compression. It enhances the audio fidelity by processing the frequencies in a new way. If you want to know more about this technology, here´s a link:

Thank you very much. You have been most helpful. At this point my honest opinion is that sound quality is more important to me than file size. The availability of storage space is increasing a lot faster than my MP3 collection - even though they are both growing t a healthy rate. Most of the MP3's I encode myself are at least 160 Kbps and some are as high as 320.

I do alt--preset-extreme with LAME for my mp3's. It works great!! Plus, mp3 is quite standardized, and this gives pretty good file compression size...and I can't tell the difference between this and .wav...

Most of my MP3´s are encoded in the range of 192 kbit. For some reason I cannot hear the difference between a 192 kbit and a 320 kbit MP3. I´ve actually never used MusicMatch Jukebo before, only Winamp and Coolplayer. Still, I wish you good luck with the beta testing of MusicMatch Jukebox and MP3 Pro, it sounds pretty interesting.
