Angry I Hate The Morpheus Priview Edition!

The new preview edition sucks! It connects, but I'd rather not use it at all!

    1. The search results. You cant sort by artist, length, or anyting! LOOK!!!

    2. My shared folder. The ID3 tags arnt even here!! Just the file name. You cant sort anything! This sucks.

    3. The F***ING mp3 player isnt there! It uses your default mp3 player!!

They better make a new god damn morpheus like the old one, or im going to kazaa!

If you run kazaa, get rid of the spyware, then create your own fake spyware (The installer says it hasn't installed spyware, it has). When you delete the current spyware in Kazaa it'll refuse to run, so you have to make your own which pretend to be the defaults, but don't actually spy. Not sure how to do it (I run Morpheus (I hate this new one though) and WinMX).

Is WinMX any good? I've never heard of it. I'm now looking up how to do what you said. If anyone knows please post it.

It's pretty good, and the upload side is much better (You can choose to throttle bandwidth if you need it). Get the list of new servers from Trippy though. I reccomend it, though apparently it has spyware (I've not found any though).

No, this will explain the first part of the story.

This is the welcome screen of the new preview edition.

    StreamCast/Morpheus CEO Steve Griffin

This week MusicCity and Morpheus users suffered dual attacks. First, early this week MusicCity's servers were hit by a massive Denial of Service attack. Soon thereafter, Morpheus users found that a separate attack had been launched on their computers and their Morpheus software programs.

It appears that the attacks included an encrypted message being repeatedly sent directly to your computers that changed registry settings in your computer. Later, it appears our ad servers were attacked resulting in messages being sent to other sites without our knowledge, which threatened our most basic revenue model. We believe some of these attacks continue as Morpheus users attempt to connect to the old Morpheus User Network. This was why it is important to quickly deploy our new software product.

This unprovoked attack is being carefully investigated, as it appears that federal laws may have been violated. We are still attempting to discover who would want to eliminate the community of millions of consumers who are using the Morpheus software product to connect with other users around the world.

These attacks have forced us to more quickly deploy our new software product in order to allow you to bring the largest p2p community back together. Since it appears that the attack on your computers came from the closed proprietary FastTrack-Kazaa software, we have opted not to continue with this p2p kernel. We believe it to have the ability to access your computer at will and change registry settings. In addition, we remain committed to NOT bundling any spy ware with our product.

We are pleased to migrate to an open Protocol product with the release of Morpheus Preview Edition, which is based on the very large network of Gnutella users. The new software will provide you with the ability for faster searches, the display of more search results, and many more new and exciting features. KEEP IN MIND that this is only our preview edition. Any time change occurs, many object and think the old version was better. Our objective is to create a new and exciting software product. Since our company and your p2p network are being attacked, we would appreciate your constructive comments for improvement, not simply criticisms. With you help and input, we will continue to provide the pre-eminent p2p software product in the world.

Lastly, we want to address some of the misinformation we've seen recently. There have been many comments that we caused these problems intentionally. Let me assure you that we would NEVER treat the Morpheus users in this fashion. Others have said we would re-launch with a paid subscription model, again, not true. Our commitment is to always provide you a free version of the Morpheus software product. Thanks again for making Morpheus the most widely downloaded p2p product in the world. We are hard at work to provide you with the products you have come to expect from our company. From our perspective p2p means people to people.

Our goal is to create the software that lets you create the network. Thanks again for your support.

    D@NG IT!

I just downloaded and tryed it. I HATE THE Freaking GNUTELLA NETWORk, I HATE having to take out a million simultaneous connections to servers sucking up my Fing bandwidth. I tried downloaded 10 movies, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM FAILED

Okay, morpheus switching from the p2p KazAA/Sharmon or whatever network to the Gnutella network just officially led to Morpheus's death...

Saturday, March 02, 2002: I announce Morpheus DEAD!

LOL, you may be right. Unless they can make the interface like the old morpheus, and make the gnutella network relieable, it will suffer the same fate as Napster.

So what are these registry settings that have been changed then?
If I've had settings messed with then I want to know about it.
So nice of MusicCity to tell us the details of what their software has let on to our computers!

I will never switch back to Morhpeus. I have Kazaa and I think I'm going to keep it. I think Morpheus is going under.

No idea, but revert to a saved registry copy if you are concerned.

Not to be too much of an a@@, but didn't you freely and knowledgebly D/L their software? If so where did you read about a warrenty or technical support?

p2p networks in general have been attacked several times in the past. Why is this a surprise to most of you?

Yes, I have use several p2p program selections, but just don't really need to anymore. Just playing a bit of a devils advocate here. No flames needed.

I knew when I read that Morpheus was switching to the Gnutella network there would be problems. I didn't like the sound of it, and from what you guys have said it doesn't look or sound good. This is very unfortunate as I really enjoyed Morpheus much more than Kazaa. Right now I'm running Grokster but I'll probably check out the new Morpheus as well (mainly just to see it for myself). Hopefully they will improve it, otherwise it looks like Morpheus will be as dead as Napster.
