The game does NOTHING to simulate reality. NOTHING. The weapons are for game balance and "coolness factor", not realism. THAT'S BEEN THE TRADEMARK OF THE ENTIRE SERIES. SUDDENLY IT'S GOOD? Wow, turn down your graphic settings and you won't even notice a difference in gameplay since the first Call of Duty for the Playstation 1.

The single player is an exercise in intelligence insulting. It makes me ashamed to be a human being when people say this is a stellar game with an "incredibe" singler player.

Good god, so angry about a video game.

Until something better comes along, COD4 is THE best shooter I ever played.
Of course its not realistic, but its dang fun.
Play it on the hardest level , it gets kinda realistic.

Its a lot of fun. And I like the hardcore mode alot, it just fits my style of play better and i do a lot better in it. There is nothing better than running around, shooting a couple G3 shots in someone and dropping him. As opposed to letting a whole clip go on him in regular gamemodes.
The only thing I DO NOT like is all the damned grenades in HQ matches. There should be a grenade-banned setting of HQ then it would be a lot of fun.

You want the real thing, GO DO IT! It will never be "realistic" in a video game...maybe some games more then others, but never as realistic as the real thing. Aside from a few wonky Koreans, people don't die from playing video games...no matter how much simulated physics a game has and how realistic a weapon sounds, you're still controlling the gun with a mouse/kb/controller....hate to break it to you folks, but that's not awfully "realistic."

Until then, quit whining about realism...you want it to be real, go join the military, until then you're still just a geek with an opinnion.

I'm tired of FPS games reverting back to Goldeneye AI and physics and still get 10's from corrupt reviewers. The same games are supposed to be "realistic" and NOBODY sees this as wrong?


Yes, games CAN be very realistic AND fun. If you don't think they can, then you obviously have been completely brainwashed by too much internet hype.

they use it to add to their training, nothing is a substitute for hands on training.
Sure I guess you can say Ghost Recon is more immersive&realistic then Doom or Wolf 3D, but certain realism boundaries just can not be crossed by technology today.
And besides, you want a realistic game? Well, how about a 12 hour single player game where you only get to shoot one guy the whole time, and after a firefight you have ringing in your ears for 2 days and your body is all bruised up and your back hurts because you just wore a vest for 12 hours?
....that would be realistic, but I would hardly call it fun enough to pay $50 for...

You seem obsessed with this realism issue, yet no one here claims to like COD 4 because its realistic, nor do I see the game advertising itself as a purely realistic shooter.

People like it cuz its fun to play, just like Halo, Unreal series, Bioshock, or any of the other recent shooters. None of them I consider realistic.

Anyway, you just seem to be trolling at this point, so I'll let it go at that. Just play games to get some enjoyment from it, if you don't enjoy it, simply don't play it...really quite simple.

In my part of the world, when we hit a certain age, we get drafted into the military for mandatory service. Sure, I've handle a variety of weapons and tossed a few grenades, but that's as real as I want it to get, the recoil of the rifles and the din made by it and exploding grenades was simply too real for me. I wouldn't wanna get hit by a single M16 round, or perforated by shrapnel........that's why I enjoy COD4, it get about as 'real' as I'm comfortable with. Besides, if it were to be realistice, I'd imagine the majority of us gamers would be rather ticked off at being killed after getting hit by a round or two......it'd be absolutely no fun at all actually.

I've never been in the military, or even fired a machine gun....

If you guys had to choose one FPS game for realism ....which one comes closest ?
I'm guessing rainbow 6 vegas ? One shot, one kill ( usually )...

for the atmosphere I'd actually take COD4 or the original Ghost Recon...it just sets up the mood so well.
Ghost Recon really had the perfect mood&setting on some levels.
action-wise? Uhh I dunno, I suppose one of the rainbow six/ghost recon series games as well.

America's Army..of course!

3.0 w/ unreal 3 engine is just right around the corner.

I never tried "america's army" - it seemed to full of propaganda.
Is it any fun ?

My brother hooked me up w/ CoD4 for xmas... he didn't bother to wrap it before I left for Florida so, going along with family tradition, I considered his gift the "one gift to open on Xmas Eve." I didn't go in expecting anything since I'd never played any of the CoD franchise, but I had heard so much from everyone about how much they loved the game, and kept hearing about all the awards the game had won.

I'm not sure if it was me, or the fact that Assassin's Creed was also an xmas gift that I put more time into, but I just couldn't get into CoD4. As of right now, this game pretty much sucks. I feel like I'm not doing enough. It looks nice, but I'm having a hell of a time playing it. I just feel like all it is is mainly my dudes going around killing whatever I don't kill, and just scope up, shoot, scope, shoot, scope, shoot, scope, shoot... move... scope, shoot, scope, shoot. I dunno. I turned it off because I thought it was pretty boring. I'll probably jump back into it soon since I'm about finished with Assassin's Creed... I just hope I get back into or something about it flips on the "fun switch" in my brain that I always have whenever I play shooters. :( So far its disappointing... meh.
