Heck, nothing wrong with Gunslash combo, as long as the mobo can support 2x PCIe x16 lanes, it don't matter none. Hell, my X38 mobo isn't exactly high-end either, I could have gone for one of the top-end Asus, but felt that as long as it has 2x PCIe x16 lane support, it's fine by me.
Anyway, looking and gunslash's spec, when the 2nd 280GTX comes, I'm expecting to lose my spot at the top.....'bout time too!

Raaawwwrrrrr
man, 3dmark06 REALLY scales with the cpu alot more than i thought.....time to get a new processor! I just got a 9800GTX+ and oced it to 810/2000/2500 and i barely break 12000 which is only about 1600 points higher than my 8800gts 320 even though this new card plays games REDICULOUSLY better. Any tweak advice to get a higher score? Ive only had it for a few days so i havent gotten too crazy with it yet but it would be nice to be able to break 14000.
i do have to say though.....farcry2 with dx10 on ultrahigh setting sure does look amazing!

[Insert witty title here]
Hey guys, I'm not a 3Dmark buff at all, but I recently built the rig in my signature, and ran 3Dmark06 as both a stress test and to make sure my performance is about where it should be.
Anyway, in 3D Mark 06 I'm getting just over 14,000. Everything stock, nothing overclocked.
Is that about right for my system?

Looks about right.
BTW why you are you not oc'ing that processor? You should be able to pull 9.5x400, with little no voltage adjustment. I have the same board and I am at 9x425 with 1.3v (I have the crappier C0 stepping). Watch your 3dmark go up then.

i7 OCing
Been gone awhile, I miss mixing it up with you OCers.
Anybody OCing their i7 core cpus? I'm waiting for my TRUE 1366 to show up, but been experimenting with the stock HSF, ugh! Running Prime95 with stock HSF at stock clocks hit 70c +
Waiting for nVidia to start selling a pair of GTX 295s to renew my battle with mikeysg.
And are we going to switch to using 3DMark Vantage?
Here's best I've found yet for OCing an i7: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...-core-i7-920/2
Anyone found max cpu temp that Intel recommends for the i7 cpus?
EDIT: I did find this for 920 and 940:
Processor Absolute Minimum and Maximum Ratings
VCC Processor Core voltage min 0.3 max 1.55 V
VTTA Voltage for the analog portion of the integrated
memory controller, QPI link and Shared Cache max 1.35 V
VTTD Voltage for the digital portion of the integrated
memory controller, QPI link and Shared Cache max 1.35 V
VDDQ Processor I/O supply voltage for DDR3 max 1.875 V
VCCPLL Processor PLL voltage min 1.65 max 1.89 V
And I think I found max cpu recommended temp of 67.9c, but not real sure on this.

Nothing personal; I haven't done a serious upgrade in 2 or 3 years -- I figure its about time. Might go cheaper on the vidcards -- seriously considering two eVGA GTX 260 Core 216s. I don't game as much as I use to.

Well, you need not worry for at least another week. First, the HSF I ordered from CrazyPC (I must have been crazy for ordering from them, but newegg didn't have them in stock) went on back order, but I should receive it today. And the vidcards won't be here 'til tomorrow or Thursday. Hope to have a fun weekend benching the new system. When its all said and done this upgrade cost nearly $2000, ouch
Sharky's is a great forum and I really appreciate your participation and taking care of posting up the scores. I especially like interacting with the 3DMark Team members; great bunch of guys and gals.
