That was me last night too, I think I was the top player 4-5 times. My friend who joined later on in the game said the second I left my team got dominated.

And snipers can be of benefit! When I'm sniping I'm looking for chances to clear the way for team mates. Like last night I saw a gunner in a MG emplacement holding down about 4-5 guys of my team from progressing forward, I killed him.

Or On Isla of Innocents my team had just played a charge on Obj A. The team counter attacked the squad which did this with about 8 or 9 guys naturally the squad was cleaned out pretty quick. I put a mortar on the objective and sniped 4 guys in a roll keeping the objective safe.

Without my long range support the Obj would of been defussed.

A type I got for when defusing an objective is KEEP MOVING. If you sit still you make an easy target. Move around the Obj holding E this will make anyone attempt to kill you more difficult buying you more time.

The only ways I play the Recon class are either carrying a Saiga-20 or USAS-12 or with a semi-automatic sniper rifle like the Type 88 and a 4x ACOG. I don't like the bolt action rifles, you really have little chance for a follow up shot.

I'm personally not that big on Rush. I like Conquest a lot more, being that it's the classic Battlefield gameplay.

I love rush, and the bolt actions are great with Magum ammo and a good headshot. Once you get a sniping spot setup with the 12x scope you can pretty much guarantee a kill or at least a kill assit.

Although the semi-automatic rifles like the type 88 are great for close range with the red dot site combined with motion sensors.

The m24 is a great rifle the GOL if your sniping at super long ranges (less bullet drop)

Also follow up shots are possible. You spot before you fire. The other day I sniped a guy (ended up hitting him in his legs) I had spotted him he ran behind some light cover well my spot put a red dot on him I re-aimed and fired through the metal cover he was behind and got a markmanship score of like 120 points.

RECON get a lot of points per kill because of marksmanship.

But one important thing to remember as a Recon unit is your strength is the fact that you can strike at a long distance (no guy with an assault rifle should be even touching you)

As Recon as attacker your goal should be two things
    1. Clear avenues for your team mates to get to the MCOM
    2. Keep the MCOM safe when it's been charged

    As a defender
    1. Spot incoming enemies and assist in taking them down
    2. Take out fellow snipers

I believe each squad should have the following on a non-vehicle map
    1. Recon
    1 Medic
    1. Assault
    1 Engineer

    on a infantry only map

    1 Recon
    1 Medic
    2 Assault

Am I the only one who finds it better to spawn either away from the squad or not be in a squad in the first place? Spawning with a squad, 9/10 leads me to get fragged as soon as I spawn....or be stuck in a horrible position that is impossible to attack the enemies from.

First off, as far as I know the Magnum Ammo damage modifier doesn't do anything with bolt-action rifles, so it's a waste. You're better off selecting something like body armor.

Squad makeup completely depends on the map and what you're trying to do. Pretty much anyone driving/flying should be an engineer as should the secondary vehicle position.

The first waves on a map like Atacama or Panama Canal should be 50/50 engineers and medics because they're the best for killing vehicles and infantry respectively. Hit an objective with two squads and one should be two engineers, a medic (with machine gun), and an assault guy for ammo. The other squad should be an engineer (with mines), two medics (one mg one shotgun) and a recon guy with a shotgun or semi-auto sniper to throw motion detectors.

On other maps engineers are of less use like White Pass. Your average squad should be medic or recon heavy. Because of close quarters the recon guys should be carrying semi-auto snipers or shotguns and at least one or both should have C4.

You just have to watch where you're going to spawn more than anything. Spawning on a squad mate or not has little bearing, it's what they're doing and where they're doing it.

Don't spawn on a teammate if he's fighting a loosing battle. Don't spawn on an objective that is in flux, spawn on your closes capped objective.

Even when spawning in a "safe" place, I find squads useless because a) nobody follows where I go b) Going where most people in my squad go is usually not where I want to go. c) I tend to get killed much faster in squads anyway because my squad members expose me.

I understand your pain and this is why I hate playing team-oriented games without a group of friends. Solution - form a squad with people from Sharky Forums!

Agreed..some of the best gameplay was when we'd group up together and I'd run around reviving us all. Mad points and super fun.

I dunno, I guess I'm more of a lone wolf type of player.

I just stink when in squads/moving together with teammates, do much better just going in on my own...

Ah, no wonder you're not having fun; BFBC2 is extremely team-oriented.

Yeah, you're not going to get anything done on your own. Now snipers to spot, no medics to heal and revive you, no assault guys with ammo, no engineer to repair your vehicle. You're screwed.

Also, people are not going to follow you around. No offense, but you're a low level. You should be following more advanced players and supporting them.

Nah I am still having a lot of fun, especially when I get into enemy territory and manage to knock off a few of their guys. I dont know, I just contribute a lot less to my team when hanging out with other teammates and get far more kills and things accomplished going on my own.

And its not that I want people to FOLLOW me, I just dont play like 90% of players and hate going where most people go (and end up sitting in a spot and exchanging fire over long distances). I prefer to rush in, either by flanking them or even a straightforward rush, even if its a suicide run, as long as I manage to cap off at least one of the people on the other side. I've rocketed myself as well previously on purpose just to take someone else out with me.

I just have a completely different playstyle...and I am still having fun. It's when I play by "the rules", hang with a squad, throw ammo/health...thats when I get killed 50 times in a row and have NO fun at all.

Pffffft, "by the rules" INDEED. When me and Astro are together, we're running around guns blazing, blowing up everything and dropping heals and ammo for each other!

Man, you HAVE to drop ammo, throw motion mines, revive people drop health, shoot tracers, and do repairs. Those are the easiest ways to get points in the game. Every time a squad mate heals on your kit or gets ammo from you it's 20 points, it's 10 points for a non-squad member. Every revive is 50 to 80 points, motion mine spot assists are 20 to 30, repairs are 20 to 30. Tracer plants are 30 points plus any damage and destroy bonuses. If you do this stuff you will level up much faster and you will be a much better player.

On another note, Port Valdez on Conquest is badass. Everyone *****es and moans about Atacama Desert and the attack helos. They should quit their *****ing and shoot the things down, it's massive points. I'm sure that they will whine just the same about Port Valdez but I love it. The firefights around Bravo get very heated.
