I'm working on Two Worlds 2 and Darkspore at the moment, trying to beat Two Worlds 2 before BF3 comes out. Dunno if that is gonna happen or not.

Thank you, Fasti, for reminding me that I bought Darkspore and have not played beyond the demo missions.

I beat Red Faction: Armageddon last night. God, what a sad game that is. The graphics, engine, gameplay, and weapons are all great, but the content is horrible. The enemies are incredibly generic and do not change much at all throughout the entire game. Little insects that jump all over the place, then big insects that jump all over, then shooty insects that jump all over, and then bigger insects that jump all over, with a slight reprieve of humans to kill.

After about the middle of the game, the environmental destruction means nothing any more. In fact, it just gets in the way. I had numerous times when I was running over a bridge filled with bugs when I would hit a bug with my hammer and the entire bridge would fall. The story is so laughable that it is depressing. Bugs invade Mars from underground, so you have to go kill their queen... Gears of War anyone? That's it, the entire game is either turning on a generator, turning off a generator, escorting some dudes, or finding xyz which is highlighted on your screen.

At the beginning the combat was fun. Killing human with destruction was a good time, but eventually there are no buildings at all and you are deep underground in caves where you can't use anything in the environment to kill the bugs. Its just shoot bug, shoot bug, eventually sprint past all the bugs to activate the next cut scene.

What is most disappointing is that the assets are nice, the engine is great, and it does a lot of things right, but the story, super linear missions, and cliche objectives make it a boring mess. Its like the programmers did an excellent job, but the designers ****ed it all up. I would have loved to have a Guerrilla style game with this engine, but they had to make a Gears of War clone without cover...

    Two Worlds 2
    7/10

    +Runs well, looks good
+slightly self-aware which leads to some humorous dialog

-Difficulty is all over the place
    -final boss is absolutely terrible

What is it with these lower tier RPG's having difficulty curves that are all over the place? Divinity 2 was like this and now Two Worlds 2 is like it and I don't know how it passes quality checks. Anyways I put roughly 75 hours into TW2 between the multiplayer, village mode, and singleplayer and enjoyment wise I would say the singleplayer is the worst part. I wish I wouldn't have even played single player honestly, If i hadn't I would have given this game at least a 8.5/10.

Battlefield 3 is next. Gonna just play Darkspore till BF3 comes out.

I ended up liking TW2, even though I never bothered to finish the original.

    Just beat:

    Super Mario Galaxy 2

Personal score: 9.5 out of 10

It took me awhile to warm up to the original SMG. I wasn't fond of the crazy 3D/Isometric perspectives right off the bat, and I said then (and I still stand by this) that it wasn't nearly as "pick-up-and-play" friendly as SM64 (or obviously the 2D Marios), and therefore SM64 was still the superior game.
SMG 2 though is better than the original in really every single way. The worlds are more fun and satisfying, it's longer, there is greater variety, more hidden stuff, and maybe best of all, having played through SMG 1, SMG2 just felt more natural, and I was able to enjoy it from literally the very beginning to the very end.
I didn't find every secret or get every star, and I doubt I ever will. Just not enough time anymore...too many games to get through. But the time I DID spend with it was truly the pinnacle of what I believe gaming is all about: pure, unadulterated fun.
It wasn't perfect: there were some frustrating boss fights, wonky camera occasionally, and other odds and ends, and I STILL have to say "World" and "64" are probably better all-around, but this game was truly enjoyable in almost every way.

    Up Next:

I think I'm gonna try and work through my (meager) Wii library, and finish Donkey Kong Country Returns next. I played through several hours of it last Christmas, but it didn't keep my attention because of that GODDAMN gimmicky "waggle" nonsense. I'm going to give it another go and maybe I can tolerate it this time.
Also probably going to start a PC game for the first time in a little while: Metro 2033 and Amnesia, in the spirit of Halloween, and to contrast the Wii cuteness.

...it all ends 11.11.11, when Skyrim arrives, so I'm trying to work through as much of my backlog as possible before then.

As an fyi, if your Wii is softmodded I posted a tutorial on how to remove the waggle and assign it to a button on a Classic Controller for Donkey Kong. Makes it's a million times easier. Damned if I can find the thread I put it in though. Pretty sure there was a DKC specific thread.

I just finished F.E.A.R Extraction Point. I played F.E.A.R and Perseus Mandate before that. I was all ready to start F.E.A.R 2 but can't get the stupid game to run. Any suggestions? I have Fry Cry 2 and all three S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. Fallout 3 is on my hard drive unplayed. Lost Planet? Dragon Age, Risen and The Witcher are the three RPG's that I have available.

Beat RAGE in 11 hours. Liked a lot of it. Also disliked a lot of little things that are reminiscent of game design from 10 years ago. The end sequence and ending? ***....really? Also the explosive arrows and upgraded wing blades made the game a pushover.

Might get back into Gran Turismo 5 or DAYTONA (!!!!!!!) until Batman and Uncharted 3 hit.

Just beat RAGE in around 13 hours. Really enjoyed it. I'm hoping they decide to expand on the story with DLC or a part 2.

I might get Daytona just for the easy S rank, the achievements are supposed to be a joke.

They really are. The only use I can see for the rewind feature is to get the "hit the cone/sign 100 times" unlock.
